Head of Architecture & Engineering

The Head of Architecture & Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based in Park City, UT. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technology leader who wants direct impact on company strategy, product innovation, and engineering culture. Working closely with executive leadership, you'll own the technical direction of our platform, guide architectural decisions, mentor engineering talent, and help shape the future of our technology organization.
The role is designed for someone with the ambition and capability to grow into Chief Technology Officer as the company continues to scale.
What you'll do
- Define and own the long-term technical architecture and engineering roadmap for the SubcontractorHub platform.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing software engineering team.
- Partner with product, operations, sales, and executive leadership to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies — large language models, autonomous agents, and automation frameworks — and identify opportunities to create meaningful customer value.
- Drive software architecture decisions that prioritize scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Develop and execute an AI strategy that improves our products, our engineering workflows, and internal business operations.
- Champion modern engineering practices: CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, and cloud-native development.
- Establish engineering standards, coding practices, documentation, and technical governance.
- Guide the design and delivery of new platform capabilities, integrations, APIs, and enterprise features.
- Recruit, coach, and retain exceptional engineering talent while fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Manage technical debt, balancing innovation against business priorities.
- Serve as a strategic technology advisor to executive leadership and help shape the company's long-term technology vision.
What we're looking for
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading engineering teams.
- Proven experience designing and scaling modern SaaS platforms.
- Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud infrastructure, APIs, distributed systems, and application security.
- Strong command of Azure or AWS cloud services, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and modern development frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience implementing AI-powered solutions — generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), machine learning integrations, or intelligent automation.
- A clear view of how AI is changing software engineering, system architecture, developer productivity, and customer experience.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives from concept through delivery.
- Passion for mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to align technology investment to company growth.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to executive stakeholders and customers.
