How to Size Airflow (CFM) the Right Way
The air-change method: room volume × ACH ÷ 60
The most reliable per-room method starts with the room's volume — square footage times ceiling height — then applies the recommended air changes per hour (ACH) for that space and divides by 60 to land on cubic feet per minute. Different rooms need different turnover rates:

Kitchens and bathrooms use higher ACH because they generate moisture, heat, and odors that need to be cleared faster. The calculator applies the right ACH automatically when you pick a room type.
The 400 CFM per ton rule for whole-system airflow
A well-matched cooling system moves roughly 400 CFM of air per ton of capacity, so a 3-ton system should deliver about 1,200 CFM total across every supply register.
