The Volume Line Uses 7.48

This cubic feet to gallons converter follows one line on the Florida DEP operator conversion table, revised February 2014: 7.48 gal = 1 cu. ft. Flow in cubic feet per second stays on the CFS to GPM converter.

A stored volume, not a flow per second or per minute.

Cubic feet per second do not belong in either choice.

What the 7.48 Volume Figure Is Using

7.48 from the volume line

The conversion table prints 7.48 gallons as 1 cubic foot, on the same row family as 8.34 pounds as 1 gallon. This page uses only the 7.48 volume figure. Pounds of water belong on the chemical feed tool, not here.

A longer gallons-per-cubic-foot figure appears in cylinder math on other tools. Dividing by that longer figure would not return the 7.48 the sheet prints. This page multiplies and divides by 7.48 so the printed pair round-trips.

Worked examples

Each row is multiplication or division by 7.48. One cubic foot is 7.48 gallons. Ten cubic feet are 74.8 gallons. The reverse of 7.48 gallons is 1 cubic foot. One hundred gallons divided by 7.48 is 13.369 cubic feet, which is the four-decimal rounding with the trailing zero dropped.

Volume is not a flow

The same Florida sheet prints a flow rate in gallons per minute as area, in square feet, times velocity, in feet per second, times 7.48, times 60. That is a rate. This page does not ask for a velocity and does not multiply by 60. A contact tank's stored gallons, from a measured cylinder, are on the contact tank volume calculator. Liters, when the lab used them, are on the gallons to liters converter.

What to write on the job ticket

The entered value, the direction, both results, and the factor 7.48. Name whether the cubic feet came from a drawing and the gallons came from a meter. A water treatment dealer who saves that note will not re-argue the unit on the next visit. Pounds per day, when you are feeding a chemical, belong on the chemical feed rate calculator. This conversion does not size a device and does not say the well passed a county rule.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this volume converter change?

It converts cubic feet and gallons using 7.48. Florida's operator conversion table prints 7.48 gallons as 1 cubic foot. The tool multiplies and divides by that printed figure. It does not convert a flow.

Why not use 7.48051948?

Some tank tools on this site use 7.48051948 gallons per cubic foot when they compute a cylinder. The Florida sheet prints 7.48. This converter uses the printed 7.48 so a cubic foot round-trips to the figure on that sheet.

Is this the cubic-feet-per-second tool?

No. The CFS converter uses 449 gallons per minute from a USGS flow sentence. This page is stored volume. The Florida sheet also prints a flow product, area times velocity times 7.48 times 60. That product is not calculated here.

Does 10 cubic feet mean the tank is large enough?

No. Ten cubic feet times 7.48 is 74.8 gallons. That is a unit change. It is not a contact time, a well yield, or a pass line.

Are liters included?

No. Gallons and liters use 3.7854 on the gallons to liters converter. This page stops at cubic feet and gallons.
